After grossing over $150m at the Box-Office, making over $80m in profit. Morbius has been slated as the worst Spider-Man spin off to be released. 

Many blame the poor screenplay, the outdated special effects and bad performances for its reception, but was the film over-hyped on the back of 'No Way Home' success? Quite possibly.

The movie was filmed in 2019, pre-pandemic and wasn't released three years later, with reshoots in 2021. But was the pandemic to blame for its poor production value many have criticised? It did fall victim to many pushbacks pre-covid, which doesn't bode well for movies these days. Some blamed the editing of the film, which, yes bad editing can be blamed, but this still can't fix a bad script and poor acting.

In all fairness, Morbius will probably fair better on its home release, giving those who stayed away from it because of its bad publicity, a chance to watch it in their own homes. Launching a new big screen character in the shadows of a massive box-office hit isn't easy for production studios. Would the movie have received the same level of criticism if it was released in 2020? Maybe not. 

Many films like this always have a bumpy start and its their sequels have done better. You can't always please everyone, but its worth giving this one a second shot. Especially as Sony have plans to include the character in future Spider-Man shared universe films.

Synopsis:

Jared Leto stars as Dr. Michael Morbius, an antihero who tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease only to unleash the darkness from within. Matt Smith (Dr. Who) co-stars as Morbius best friend, who is suffering from the same blood disease.
